How the Emergency Fund began
In every crisis, Desmos is on the front line. Our priority is always to provide reliable information and mobilise quickly to address real needs where support is needed most.
In July 2024, we established the Desmos Emergency Fund—a dedicated funding mechanism that enables us to secure resources in advance, allowing us to respond rapidly, strategically and effectively whenever an emergency occurs.
The Emergency Fund is our way of being prepared before the next crisis strikes.
Through the Emergency Fund, we are able to:
- Maintain readily available resources for immediate response
- Support communities affected by emergencies
- Equip and strengthen volunteer forest firefighting and rescue teams
- Enable coordinated and effective emergency interventions
The Emergency Fund was first made possible through donations made in memory of Kostas Apostolidis and the trust of his family, who embraced this initiative with generosity and foresight.
Since then, individuals, companies and other supporters have played a vital role in growing and strengthening the Emergency Fund, reinforcing our operational preparedness and ensuring we can act without delay when emergencies arise.
The Emergency Fund was immediately activated during the devastating fires of 2024, providing critical material support to volunteer forest firefighting teams operating in Rethymno and Attica. Its action continued in 2025, supporting areas affected, such as Ierapetra of Crete, Oropos of Attica and of course Chios and Patra.
