Chios 2025
In the summer of 2025, the island of Chios was struck by two major wildfires that caused extensive damage to the natural environment, biodiversity and local economy, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency.
In response to the needs of the local community, Desmos mobilised to raise and channel donations, aiming to support both the people on the front line and the professionals whose livelihoods were most severely affected by the fires.
With the support of the TIMA Charitable Foundation and the Reale Foundation—the charitable foundation of the Reale Group, of which Ydrogios Insurance is a member—we provided 29,700 kg of bee feed to 70 beekeepers from the Chios Agricultural Beekeepers’ Cooperative. This donation covered the feeding needs of 5,846 beehives during the three critical winter months, helping safeguard beekeeping activity while contributing to the island’s environmental recovery.
At the same time, we supplied essential operational equipment to eight volunteer forest protection and firefighting teams operating within the Chios Civil Protection network, strengthening the work of the volunteers who stand on the front line of wildfire prevention and response every year.
The donations were delivered by Desmos, acting as the implementing organisation, in collaboration with the donors during our visit to Chios in January 2026. There, we met with representatives of the volunteer teams, the Chios Agricultural Beekeepers’ Cooperative, and local authorities, reaffirming once again that meaningful support does not end when the fires are extinguished—it continues for as long as local communities need it to recover.
