Desmos and the European Investment Bank join forces in East Attica
The European Investment Bank in cooperation with Desmos are reconstructing playgrounds in eastern Attica, which were destroyed by the fire
2 playgrounds have already been completed in Neos Voutzas and Mati.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) through the EIB Institute and thanks to the contribution of its employees, made a donation of €271,260 to Desmos for the reconstruction and redevelopment of playgrounds in the affected areas, which had either been completely destroyed or were no longer suitable for use due to the fires.
This grant marks the European Investment Bank’s 1st collaboration with Desmos.
The EIB donation acknowledges that Desmos:
- Committed to transparency, reliability and professionalism in all projects implemented,
- Has the ability to choose and implement a project that will provide long-term support to children, their families and the local community and helps with rehabilitation after the tragic events of the fire,
- It works effectively so it creates maximum social Impact.
The reconstruction of the playgrounds was selected after a thorough consultation of the EIB Institute with the external delegation of the EIB in Athens and results as a result of (I) the continuous presence and communication of Desmos with NGOs and networks of citizens of the region, since the day after the devastating fire, (ii) The Communication of the link with the municipalities of Marathon and Rafina-Pikermi and (iii) the evaluation of various potential redevelopment projects in the area.
After carefully considering proposals for the reconstruction of the playgrounds and taking into account the overall quality and The Associated cost, Desmos chose to cooperate with the Finnish company Lappset, which has a long experience and history of constructing high quality playgrounds projects in Greece and abroad.
The 1st playground in N. Voutzas, is located on Chr. Smyrnis and Kirkis was completed on 31/12/18. It is the 1st place in the municipality of Marathon that is fully compliant with European safety regulations and quality standards, which has equipment accessible to children of all ages and children with Special Needs, Safety absorbent tiles, solar lamps, faucet and benches. Tree planting will be completed in April.
