The work of Desmos for the redevelopment of public spaces in eastern Attica continues

On July 23, 2018, a forest fire developed rapidly and hit the areas of Rafina, Neos Voutzas and Mati, burning 5,000,000 square meters and leaving behind 100 victims. Aiming at the optimal use of the donations and after a continuous presence in the area covering immediate and urgent needs, Desmos has undertaken the project of the redevelopment of playgrounds and public use fields, which have been completely destroyed or deemed unsuitable for use after the tragic fires. The project aims to cover a vital need of the affected areas by creating robust public spaces that inspire a positive narrative and encourage the creation of social bonds.

Desmos, in cooperation with the European Investment Bank, has now delivered 2 playgrounds, at the junction of Chrysostomou Smyrni and Nymfon streets in N.Voutza and 35 Perikleous Street in Mati respectively. These spaces are among the first in the municipality of Marathon that are fully compliant with European safety regulations and quality standards, they have equipment accessible to children of all ages and children with special needs, a 5-year maintenance guarantee, absorbent safety tiles, solar lamps, faucets and benches. The corresponding tree planting will be completed by the end of June, depending on the weather conditions, when voluntary landscaping actions will also take place. Based on the delivery of functional multipurpose spaces, Desmos, taking advantage of the amount raised by independent donors, will undertake the redevelopment and configuration of the adjacent basketball court in the playground of N. Voutza.

Communicating systematically with competent bodies, associations and local residents ‘ coordinating committees and aiming at the delivery of excellent quality public utility projects in affected by the deadly fires areas, in the final phase of the project Desmos will undertake the redevelopment of the facilities of N.A.O.MA (Naval and Athletic Club of Mati), in L. Poseidon 33 in Mati. In the framework of the project, fully renovated sports fields (basketball and beach volleyball), playground, lighting network and other equipment will be delivered that will allow the full exploitation of this symbolic space and its definition as a reference point and meeting place for locals and visitors.
