The response of the world was truly moving and your trust in Desmos continues to give us wings!

From day one, the Desmos team took action utilizing the immediate response of individuals, companies and other civil society actors to help and meet immediate needs.

We managed to create channels of communication with local agencies and organizations operating in the field in order to have a picture of the immediate needs created by the disaster, and to offer valid and timely information on a daily basis to all interested parties.

Thanks to the support of the Desmos network, we managed, mainly during the first days of the fires, to secure refrigerators for the maintenance of water, juice and food in the affected areas, power banks, items for the rescue and care of domestic animals in Varymbombi, logistical equipment for the collection points of these animals, special masks with filters for the needs of volunteers who supported the firefighters, water, juice and food absolutely necessary, milk in individual packages for firefighters in northern Evia, individual packages of personal hygiene items for the people who were displaced from their villages and many more.

But over the next few days we made connections to meet the first important needs. Cooked meals were offered in villages in Ancient Olympia, coaches were found to transport volunteers to Northern Euboea, pressing machines were offered to clean public areas of the affected areas. In addition, we have offered tablets for the convenience of people claiming electronic allowances, even aromatherapy devices and oils for the decongestion of odor in non-burned areas, special medicinal ointments for the care of Burns, school bags, caskets, canteens and food containers for children starting school in burned areas.

As we move away from the day of disaster and the lights of celebrity are dimmed, the assessment of property damage proceeds and the long-term needs of local communities become clearer. Residents are faced with a devastated environment, which was a source of life and economic activity, and an uncertain future. As nature has its own pace and although regeneration has already begun, it will take tens of years to become productive.

Η ομάδα του ΔΕΣΜΟΥ συνεχίζει την καθημερινή επικοινωνία με τοπικούς φορείς και οργανισμούς που έχουν αναπτύξει δράση στις πληγείσες περιοχές. Ήδη έχουμε επισκεφθεί τα Βίλια Αττικής και τη Βόρεια Εύβοια για να γνωρίσουμε από κοντά τις περιοχές αυτές και τους ανθρώπους τους, να ακούσουμε και να καταγράψουμε τις ανάγκες τους. Πραγματοποιώντας και επόμενες επισκέψεις, θα είμαστε σε θέση να εντοπίσουμε τις ενέργειες που θα έχουν προστιθέμενη αξία στην περιοχή.

Hundreds of individuals and companies in Greece, as well as 2 important initiatives of the Greek diaspora from the USA and Australia, have contributed to the raising of over €180,000, and have trusted the commitment of the association to create projects and actions that will offer substantial help to the communities of the areas affected by the tragic fires of this summer.
