17th Experimental Elementary School of Xanthi

Creation of an innovation classroom with STEM and educational robotics equipment

The 17th Experimental Elementary School of Xanthi is attended by 125 students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, forming a dynamic and multicultural school community. The school places particular emphasis on educational innovation through new teaching methods, modern educational tools and participation in educational programs and activities.

As part of this approach, the school sought to create an innovation classroom where students could engage with STEM and educational robotics through hands-on learning, play, collaboration and exploration.

Desmos provided the classroom with educational STEM and robotics kits, as well as materials for creative construction activities.

The new equipment enabled students to take part in educational robotics lessons and activities, developing skills in collaboration, creativity, problem-solving and inquiry-based learning.

The use of the equipment soon led to an important educational experience. On 4 March 2023, students from the school participated in the qualifying round of the Panhellenic First LEGO League “SUPERPOWERED” competition and qualified for the final, achieving particularly strong results in the innovation category.

Participation in the competition provided a further opportunity to put the innovation classroom and its new equipment into practice, allowing students to apply the knowledge and skills they had developed through their robotics lessons.

“As part of our efforts to implement innovative teaching methods, best practices and learning tools, we envisioned creating an innovation classroom at our school. A classroom equipped to support educational robotics and the STEAM educational approach. Our vision is becoming a reality this school year thanks to your generous support.”
