5th cycle – Administrative Support in the Field – Promitheas

Eleni participated in the 5th cycle of the program at the Promitheas organisation, taking on the role of Field Administrative Support. One thing she will never forget is what a beneficiary told her when he tested positive for HIV and hepatitis C.

“I remember him looking at us with emotion and saying how grateful he is that we exist as an organisation and that finally, someone in his life is giving him care and motivation to try to become a better person. He also told us that he feels lucky that we crossed his path and that he’ll be able to connect with the healthcare system to get the medication he needs to live. It was a very intense and moving experience, and I felt this sense of fulfillment within me that I’m making a difference.”

Eleni continued her work at Promitheas even after the completion of the program’s fifth cycle, as the organisation secured the funding for the continuation of her position, thereby confirming the value and success of the “Desmos for Youth” program.

Promitheas was founded in 2012 as the first association for patients with liver disease in Greece. Through its long-standing presence in the field—from prisons and the streets to the Community Hub and remote islands—it has highlighted a deep and multifaceted gap in access to healthcare, particularly for socially and economically vulnerable groups. A gap that transcends the boundaries of a thematic mission and demands systemic solutions. In 2025, Promitheas incorporates this experience into the core of its identity and evolves into an organisation with an expanded social mission: to defend the universal right to healthcare for all vulnerable populations. Without barriers. Without exceptions.
