Working closely with residents, local authorities, civil society organisations and public institutions, we identified the community&#8217;s real needs and developed an action plan built around three key priorities: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-835894f2\">\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-3250d30d dn-diamond-item\">Providing <strong>immediate relief<\/strong> and addressing urgent humanitarian needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-330fbf54 dn-diamond-item\"><strong>Restoring and revitalising<\/strong> public spaces that serve as important community landmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-3e602ef9 dn-diamond-item\"><strong>Strengthening the area&#8217;s resilience<\/strong> through prevention and preparedness initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-0e1a99be\">Guided by these priorities, Desmos designed and implemented <strong>a five-year recovery and regeneration programme<\/strong>, carried out between <strong>2018 and 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1248\" class=\"gb-media-48cd178b\" alt=\"\" title=\"anatoliki-attiki-3\" src=\"https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3-1024x639.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3-768x479.jpg 768w, https:\/\/desmos.digitalnest.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/anatoliki-attiki-3-1536x958.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-04910a81\"><strong>From Emergency Relief to Community Recovery (2018\u20132019)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-391a53ce\">In the days immediately following the wildfire, Desmos mobilised to r<strong>espond to the urgent needs<\/strong> of both residents and volunteers working in the affected area. Through donations from individuals and companies, essential supplies, protective masks, household appliances, medical equipment and other critical items were distributed to affected families and local social welfare organisations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-e1845c15\">At the same time, it quickly became clear that genuine recovery required more than emergency assistance. For a community to move forward, it needed to regain the public spaces where people gather, children play, and everyday life can begin again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-4bf60727\">Less than a year after the wildfire, Desmos had already completed its first major restoration projects for the local community. These included <strong>the redevelopment of the outdoor area of the Mati Nautical Club (NAOMA) and the complete restoration of its historic fountain<\/strong>, as well as the construction of <strong>three playgrounds<\/strong>, <strong>two basketball courts<\/strong> and <strong>one beach volleyball court<\/strong> in Mati and Neos Voutzas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-text gb-text-7a7d3718\">In <strong>September 2019<\/strong>, almost one year after the disaster and following the completion of the first phase of projects, the renovated NAOMA venue hosted a remarkable evening for the entire community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-49c2d4bf\"><strong>Anna Vissi<\/strong>, who has long-standing personal ties to Mati, generously offered to perform a free charity concert. <strong>More than 3,500 people<\/strong> gathered in a place that only months earlier had symbolised destruction and loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-86a62191\">The concert became much more than a cultural event. It represented a <strong>powerful symbol of hope, recovery and renewal<\/strong>, demonstrating that life could once again return to the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-0b38af8a\">\n<img gb-text-79313267\"><strong>From Recovery to Resilience (2020\u20132022)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-c1695124\">Following the completion of the initial recovery phase, Desmos continued its work with projects designed not only to restore what had been lost, but also to <strong>strengthen the region&#8217;s resilience<\/strong> against future crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-ed3a55d9\">In 2020, during the first COVID-19 lockdown, Desmos constructed a <strong>new 5-a-side football pitch<\/strong> at the facilities of the Neos Voutzas Athletic Club &#8220;I Proodos&#8221;, creating a modern sports facility now used by hundreds of children and local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1244\" throughout the Municipality of Marathon. Tree planting initiatives, additional landscaping works and ongoing maintenance of previously completed public spaces ensured that these areas remained functional, safe and valuable gathering places for the local community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-ae7124f6\"><strong>Supporting Those Who Protect the Community (2023)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-bddcf978\">The final phase of the programme focused on <strong>strengthening the area&#8217;s emergency response capacity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-85396e8f\">Responding to a request from the local community, Desmos donated a fully equipped <strong>firefighting vehicle<\/strong> in <strong>2023<\/strong> to the Marathon Volunteer Forest Firefighters Association (S.E.D.M.), substantially reinforcing its ability to prevent and respond rapidly to wildfires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-a86ba2f7\">This donation marked the completion of a <strong>five-year commitment<\/strong> that went beyond restoring the consequences of the wildfire. For Desmos, recovery is not complete when a project is delivered.
